| August 2008 Hello everyone, here is an up date on Gloria. She is well. She had eye surgery a few weeks ago, to correct the allignment of her lovely brown eyes, so she can utilize the vision she has. It went well, she seems to see more, and is smiling so much! We are doing what we do. Daniel will be playing pop warner football soon, and Jeremy will be coaching again this year. They have been ocean fishing together, Jeremy is hooked. My dad was recently married to a woman I love, named Gisela. May 24th 2008. She is a wonderful Christian woman, good for my dad, very nice to my mom. I went on vacation for the first time in five years, My dad, Gisela, Daniel, Grace and I had a great time at Mount Hermon, a Christian conference center, & my favorite place in the world.(the redwoods in northern California...Beautiful!) Gloria was here at home with her nurses, and dad, and two wonderful caregivers named Hannah and Ashley. They volunteer to do therapy and so I asked them if they would be willing to learn her nursing care while I was gone. They both want to be nurses, so they said yes and thus started the training process. I love teaching people who are so eager to learn, and so full of love! I didn't worry while I was away, I missed her But I didn't worry and I came home to a well cared for little girl. I am blessed with wonderful nurses and volunteers and an amazing family on both sides! I do hope to take her on vacation with us some day... maybe Joni and friends camp, geared for children with disabilities and their families. That would be a good thing for our family. Keep that in prayer for us. We are still adjusting to this whole thing, one step at a time. Recovering as a family is a long process, very involved and complicated... with many hearts to consider, and slower than I would like, but it is happening! Also thank you to everyone who has donated to the van fund we are at about $5,000 right now. Thank you all so very much. We have been supported in so many ways and our lives are rich with meaningful relationships. We have been having our Church meet in our home for the last few years, Two families, Grand parents, children and grandchildren all together. Our good friends moved to Murrietta, so our Church situation has changed drastically. We will likely be attending Light and Life Church, because my son goes to school there and they have loved us. Then comes the question that prompted us to have Church here in the first place. "What about Gloria?" We don't want to leave her but taking her somewhere is a long process, and exhausting. It is easier on everyone at home and she could be with us for Church and be on her bed if she got stressed or needed care. That is not the case anymore. I believe God will help us figure this out...but we need prayers. Nothing is simple for us. Each change is hard and complicated. He has been faithful to us. Please pray for His will to be done with our Gloria-Church situation. Skipping church is not an option but we can't always all be together, and it doesn't feel right. The other major request is not for us but for a friend. A boy named Daniel Nelson was hit by a car a few weeks ago, and has suffered much trauma. He received a trach and G-tube recently, and is starting to come out of the coma. He is just getting off the vent. They need your prayers and support! Please visit www.caringbridge.org and type in danielnelson to learn more. Thank you for loving us and for loving God, it makes all the difference in the world! I will update soon. God bless you all. Joanna Endermann April 16, 2007 Gloria just got “The Vest Airway Clearance System,” which vigorously percusses the lungs which helps to clear the airways and helps to prevent pneumonia. Gloria has grown to 50” now, and weighs about 52lbs, which, amazingly, is right on schedule with a “normal” six year old. She is much more alert and interactive than she used to be. She gives an abundance of smiles now whereas in the beginning we didn’t get any smiles. The “nobody’s home” look in her face has diminished and been replaced with “more light behind those eyes.” Gloria used to be on antibiotics every month. The past 12 months she’s been on antibiotics maybe once or twice, which is unheard of for kids in her condition. I feel more comfortable now with Gloria’s ability to go out and interact with more people (especially her siblings) because I’m not as scared of her getting sick. She is healthy enough for other kids to come up and hug and kiss her, which is healthy for Gloria and the other kids. August 17, 2006 Gloria recently had a complete evaluation from the Australian Institute who have been following her progress for about 2 years now. Their assessment was amazing! Gloria has improved in many areas since beginning a daily rigorous therapy regime. She can track objects with her eyes, her range of motion has improved, and her emotional state is much better. She smiles and laughs regularly now when stimulated. It is exciting to see the improvements. Please keep her in your prayers! January 26, 2006 Greetings family and friends. It has been a few months since our last update so let's get caught up. Gloria is doing well and just celebrated her 5th birthday on December 6. She had a princess themed party and wore a beautiful maroon and black velvet dress. She enjoyed opening her many presents (with a little help from Joanne) and blinked with excitement when we sang happy birthday to her. She continues to get hyperbaric chamber treatments about five times a week and also enjoys other types physical therapy on a daily basis (see therapy picture in photo album). One issue of constant concern is her nursing care. It has been difficult maintaining consistent nursing care for the 3pm-11pm and 11pm-7am shifts. Please keep Gloria and her family in your hearts and prayers as they face their difficult daily routine. September 22, 2005 Gloria had her surgery and all went well. She did have a set back for a few days when she had to go to the ER at Children's Hospital because of blood in her throat from rupturing the scabs from her surgery. She is doing well today, Wednesday and is recovering at home. July 28, 2005 The Australian Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential (AIAHP) is scheduled to visit Joanne and Jeremy at their home in late July. They plan to teach them a style of therapy which stimulates Gloria's brain through the five senses, sight, tough, smell, taste and hearing. June 28, 2005 Gloria is having her tonsils and adenoids removed as well as getting botox injections in her saliva glands sometime in August or September. The removal of her adenoids and golf ball sized tonsils will open up her airway so she can breath easier. Botox injections in her saliva glands will help keep the amount of excess saliva she produces to a minimum for about six months. May 14, 2005 The Endermann family has been blessed with a new home just down the street from their old one. They'll be moving in soon and are excited about all the extra space and better living conditions for Gloria. April 13, 2005 Gloria is home! Praise Jesus! She came home yesterday and is doing well. Thank you all who have prayed with us through Gloria's hospital stay. We appreciate all your love and support. God Bless. April 9, 2005 Gloria continues to recover in the hospital. Today they're testing how she breathes while off the ventilator and say once she's able to go 24 hours without needing it she'll be able to go home. April 7, 2005 Gloria is doing better today, praise God, although there's no word as to when she'll be able to return home. April 5, 2005 Gloria remains in the hospital today. She had a hard time taking deep breaths so she's on a ventilator which helps her oxygen levels to stabilize. Her heart rate and temperature were up and down today as well. Please continue to pray for our precious little Gloria's recovery. April 3, 2005 Gloria's test results were positive for 'walking pneumonia.' Children's Hospital has the best facilities for treating it so Gloria is going to stay there while she gets better. She is already improving and her chest x-rays show she is on the mend. April 2, 2005 Gloria remains in the hospital today. Doctors took a chest x-ray and blood test and expect the results tomorrow. April 1, 2005 Gloria is going to spend the night at Children's Hospital tonight. After a few tests doctors believe she is in the early stages of developing pneumonia and think it is best to treat her there for now. We will update her progress daily until she is home again. April 1, 2005 Gloria has been admitted to Children's Hospital, San Diego today with a high heart rate and a fever. Please pray that the doctors can get her stabilized as soon as possible so she can return home to her family. March 2005 Gloria is doing well, but is in need of a good, loving night nurse from 11pm to 7am. Good nighttime nursing care is always an issue. Currently no qualified nurse is available leaving Joanne and Jeremy to care for Gloria during the night. Please keep this issue in your prayers. January 2005 Nurses and mother hear Gloria on separate occasions say 'Ma, Ma.' December 2004 Begins to blink rapidly to communicate a 'yes' reply to family. August 2004 Gloria begins Hyperbaric Chamber therapy (a form of treatment that allows a person to breath 100% oxygen while they are in a pressurized chamber). She has since completed 130 hours of her 200 hour prescription. This therapy is paid for with donated funds. Since coming home: Gloria can open her eyes and look around, sneeze, cough, stretch, sit up while strapped in her wheel chair, startle at a loud noise, and recognize her immediate family. June 15th, 2004 Released from Children's Hospital, San Diego. |
